Making Fencing Accessible

Founded in October 2025, Taiwan Youth Fencing Club (TYFC) was established by dedicated student-athlete Chin Yu Oo (Ally). The inspiration sparked during a trip to an indigenous village, where Ally realized the local children had never even heard of fencing—mistakenly believing the sport was just a made-up story. This profound realization taught her that her passion for the sport must go beyond personal medals on the competitive circuit. She recognized that fencing is not just an elegant test of reflexes, but a powerful tool for cultivating discipline, strategic thinking, and mental fortitude. Today, TYFC is driven by the mission to break down resource barriers and make this empowering sport accessible to all youth.

The Challenge: Breaking the "Elite" Stereotype

Through their extensive competitive experience, Chin Yu Oo (Ally) observed a frustrating reality: fencing is widely perceived as an exclusive, "elite" sport. High training costs and limited geographic resources create a significant barrier, particularly for youth in rural Taiwan. They saw that countless promising students—especially those from Indigenous tribes and new immigrant families—were being entirely shut out from the sport's unique benefits.

Our Solution: Local Roots, Global Reach 

Driven to instigate real change, the founder launched TYFC to transcend these socioeconomic limitations. The approach champions a holistic development model that combines physical fitness, strategic training, and mentorship. Starting with empowering Indigenous and new immigrant youth in rural Taiwan, TYFC has proven that this inclusive model works. Today, we are expanding our footprint internationally—bringing this same mission to underserved communities in Malaysia and beyond, ensuring equitable access to fencing on a global scale.
